Almonds are fruit of the almond tree which is a tree similar to our peach tree, but with more foliage. The almond tree bears its first fruits after approximately 6 years, but produces almonds up until a relatively old age (even as much as 50 years). We know two types of almonds – sweet and bitter. Almonds are rich in all basic nutrients – they contain proteins, essential amino acids, calcium, phosphorous, magnesium, potassium and iron. Almonds can be consumed in their natural state or lightly roasted. Almond milk is also well-known (liquidised almonds, water and sweetener, – preferably honey), which can be a substitute for people who are allergic to cows milk. Almond milk is suitable for boosting the nervous system and acting against stress. Owing to the content of calcium, phosphorous and magnesium almonds are very important for people suffering from osteoporosis and bone demineralisation.
