Market report - 23 June 2005

Nothing important has happened in the market of Iranian pistachios in the last two months. There is a new president in Iran and the pistachio prices keep dropping. The current situation in the Iranian pistachio market is extremely quiet.

In the present dead season the prices both in Iran and Hamburg are falling down due to low demand for Iranian pistachios. The new pistachio harvest in Iran seems to be of better quality and prices than in the last year. We can expect the prices of the new pistachios to be more favourable and pistachios will thus regain their lost market position. The yield of Californian pistachios will be lower compared to 2004. The fact will definitely reflect in the new prices.

We have received news concerning the new harvest prices but the advised prices are too high. We suppose that the new Californian harvest must be cheaper than the presently advised prices, even if the new yield is lower.

There are rumours that ALL naturally opened pistachios should be „mixed“ with AO to reach better prices. The days coming will show us the truth...
