Market report - 8 March 2005

The present situation at the pistachio market does not show any major changes. The European prices are basically at the same level due to low demand and, on the other hand, due to low numbers of pistachios which have passed through the EU tests.

The numbers of pistachios refused since the beginning of the year has still been rather high, especially in Spain. That is why the prices of pistachios for the European market are extremely low – even compared to Iran. The prices in Iran are gradually decreasing. We will see whether the trend continues after the Iranian new year when the market closes down for nearly 15 days.

The new pistachio yield still looks very promising. Unless there is no spring frost, we can look forward to a very good harvest. We will bring the more detailed information in April. In the meantime, it is not expected that these circumstances might influence the last harvest prices.
