Cashew nuts are the fruit of the tropical tree – the cashew tree of the Anacardiaceous species – related to the pistachio and mango. Cashew nuts contain approximately 50 % fats, 20 % proteins and 25 % sugars, are rich in beta-carotene, zinc and trace elements. They originate from India, and are sometimes stated as coming from South America. Cashew nuts are easily digestible. They have a unique sweet taste. They are often used in Asian cuisine for their marvellous taste that accentuates any dish. The high content of unsaturated acids reduces the level of cholesterol in the blood, and they have a curative effect on the eyes, mucosa and skin. Cashew nuts also make excellent oil.
